DSN In-Band Continuous-Wave Radio Frequency Interference-Suppression Techniques

چکیده
Radio frequency interference has been a potential threat to the operation of NASA’s Deep Space Network. Despite regulatory efforts to avoid potential sources of such interference, the increasing crowding of the S-band (2.3-GHz) and X-band (8.4-GHz) spectra inevitably limits the effectiveness of frequency management efforts. In this article, two interference-suppression schemes for in-band continuouswave interferences using either the time-domain adaptive filtering technique or the frequency-domain filtering technique are presented. The simulated performances based upon the tracking of a fully suppressed binary phase-shift keyed signal are compared, and trade-offs between them are discussed. The results show the timedomain approach to be the best method to mitigate the in-band continuous-wave type of radio frequency interference, while the frequency-domain approach potentially can deal with out-of-band interferences.

Radio frequency interference (RFI) is one of the foremost concerns in safety critical applications that utilize GPS. RFI sources either intentional or unintentional at the vicinity of the victim receiver can potentially mask the weak GPS signals. Most commercial receivers are equipped with no or basic level of protection against in-band RFI. Acquisition under strong RFI is more difficult as the...

Ultra Wide-band (UWB) radio systems have drawn attention during the last few years. These systems use low transmission power, spread over a bandwidth of several gigahertz, which enable them to co-exist with other narrow band systems over the same frequency band without interfering them. Nevertheless, the narrow band systems can cause interference which may jam the UWB receiver completely. This ...

A common problem with radiofrequency (RF) receivers is that in addition to the desired signal, there is an interfering signal of much greater total power. These receivers can be for communications, radar, interception, etc. The interference can arise intentionally, such as from intentional jamming, or unintentionally, such as radiofrequency interference from a nearby transmitter. There is a nee...

Ultra Wideband (UWB) is an attractive technique that enables coexistence with other radio systems using very short pulses and spread spectrum. However there are potential interferences each other if UWB and other radio system are used same frequency band at close range. This paper discusses interference detection and mitigation techniques for pulse based UWB (p-UWB). A multi-carrier template wa...
